Leyland MethodistJunior School

3W

Welcome to Year 3!

We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas holiday with plenty of fun, feasting and family time. This half term in Year 3, as ever, promises to be a busy one, with lots of new topics and new skills to master.

We will be working on a topic called Rock and Roll this half term and throughout the next six weeks the children will learn all sorts of interesting facts about the earth beneath our feet. All of our Science, Geography and Art work will focus on exploring rocks, soils, fossils and volcanoes and will hopefully inspire our children to get digging in their gardens!

We will at times be doing some quite messy artwork this half term – including printing with paint and ink – if you would like provide your child with an old T-shirt to wear to protect their uniform, please feel free, they can pop it into their PE bag so they always have it on hand.

Our PE slots in Year 3 for this half term will be on Tuesdays and Fridays – although the way to avoid any disappointment or missed lessons is to leave the children’s PE kits in school for the rest of the half term and take them home in October for a good wash! They will need an indoor kit (shorts, T-shirt and pumps) and an outdoor kits (a pair of jogger bottoms and some trainres).

Homework will be given out on Tuesdays and this will need to be handed in on the following Monday. The children will also receive a reading book and a library book to bring home which they will change as often as is necessary.

We will at times be doing some quite messy artwork including working with paint, clay and other delights – if you would like provide your child with an old T-shirt to wear to protect their uniform, please feel free, they can pop it into their PE bag so they always have it on hand.

We will of course keep you updated with anything else you might need to know. We will use the Xpressions app to keep you updated and will update the website regularly to make sure you are kept in the loop.

So for now, enjoy the first few weeks of term and please pop in at any point if there is anything that you want to ask, check or query – our doors are always open.
