Class 3P

Welcome to Class 3P's website page

It is hard to believe we are entering our final half term in Year 3 and the children have just a few short weeks before they will be moving up to Year 4!
It is, as always, set to be busy half term with lots going on both in class and also around school. In the first full week, we will be rounding off our topic on the Romans with a Year 3 visit to Ribchester. All of the children and staff are really looking forward to it after the fabulous day we had with our Roman visitor last term. The children learned a huge amount about the clothes, food, weapons and daily life in the Roman period and we hope to build on this learning at the museum on Monday 8th June.
We will also be starting a new unit of work called “How does your garden grow?” which will have a real Science focus. Throughout the next few weeks the children will be exploring the different elements of plants from the seeds, roots, stems, leaves and flowers and looking at the role each of these play in plant growth. They will be doing lots of practical experiments in class, but any planting and gardening you can get your children doing at home would really help to bring the topic to life! We will also be planning, designing and making their own ‘planter’ in Design Technology which we hope to use to cultivate different seeds.
Once again, it is always great to hear from children who have been researching the topic at home, so if anyone would like to bring in books about plant life and gardening, that would be great! Also, if anyone has any clever ideas about objects we could recycle in order to make an interesting planter, we would love to hear your ideas.
As always, if you find you have a few spare minutes, helping children to learn their times tables is always a really useful activity as it helps them no end with the maths problems and tasks we do at school. Also, your continued support with helping children to learn their spellings and complete their homework is always appreciated.
This will be a very busy half term with sports days, discos, Year 6 performances and a week of birthday celebrations for the school. We will keep you up to date with all the information you need, but as usual if you have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to ask your child's class teacher or any member of the school staff.
