Executive Headteacher Welcome

Welcome to Leyland Methodist Junior School! This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.

Our school is a large two-form entry Primary School with 282 pupils aged 7 to 11. We have spacious classrooms and extensive grounds, housing football cages and an inner courtyard. Our buildings date from 1964. In recent years, our school has undergone a complete refurbishment of classrooms, with improved accessibility and also new gymnastic equipment in our hall. We love our library, which is stunning and makes us all want to read just that little bit more! We are very excited about our outdoor Narnia trail, where you meet our very own Mr Tumnus and the mighty Aslan in the school grounds. We are even hoping to extend this trail in the near future where pupils and staff alike can undertake their daily mile of physical activity!

During their time with us, our children grow and learn in a well-supported community with close links to Leyland Methodist Church. Rev Phil is a frequent visitor and popular amongst our young people. We also have the added advantage of having our feeder school, Leyland Methodist Infant School, next door on a neighbouring site. From September 2018, the two schools have embarked on an exciting collaboration, which aims to bring our Infant and Junior Schools even closer. I feel very privileged to be the Executive Headteacher over both schools. The working partnership between the two schools continues to grow and flourish with both schools absolutely committed to seeing the children’s education as a seven year journey not just the phase of time they have with each of us. We also benefit from partnerships with our local high schools including Technology days, maths classes, master classes and sporting competitions.

Our children are an inspiration. They are well behaved and show responsible attitudes to learning. They are very articulate and are keen to take on responsibilities such as the School Council, Ethos Team and the Eco Council. In addition I am very proud of their work as reading buddies to younger children in the Infant School. It is an absolute pleasure to be their headteacher.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find any information you are looking for. Please feel free to leave comments in the Guestbook, or contact the school direct with any queries you may have.

Thank you for visiting!

Kind Regards,
Mrs Kathryn Melling
