Executive Headteacher Welcome

Welcome to Leyland Methodist Infant and Junior Schools.

I am privileged to be the interim executive headteacher here for the summer term of 2024, following the retirement of our respected former executive headteacher, Mrs. Melling, and until her permanent successor begins work here in September 2024.

I have known this school since 2021 and it is a very special place. The children are delightful- well mannered, hard-working, polite and enthusiastic- and the staff are energetic, talented and absolutely committed to doing all they can to help the children flourish.

We are Methodist schools, rooted in our community and living out the faith that we do all we can for ourselves and for others.

We encourage attitudes of kindness and love towards all we know and also towards those whom we have not yet met- we encourage kindness towards everybody. This helps the academic progress our children make, which is above the national norm. (2023 government data)

We welcome everybody here- of all faiths and of none.

This is what our most recent Ofsted reports have said:

Infant School: “This is an outstanding school… Pupils make rapid progress and achieve exceptionally well in reading, writing and mathematics with outcomes high compared with national averages. Pupils’ outstanding behaviour is supported by excellent provision for their spiritual, moral social and cultural development. Pupils feel extremely safe in school and get on very well together.”

Junior School: “Pupils feel happy, safe and well supported in school. They know that adults look after and care for them. Parents and carers agree that pupils are well looked after. Staff have high expectations of all pupils, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff expect every pupil to achieve well, and they are successful at making this happen. Pupils are eager learners … Pupils conduct themselves well.”

It is an exciting time for us at Leyland as we have very recently joined the Epworth Education Trust- a Methodist trust with the strongest of reputations. It is known for high standards, high expectations, also for its warmth and compassion.

If you would like to come and see the school for yourself, please contact our school office and either I or one of the heads of school (Mrs. Rogerson and Miss Hollings) will arrange for you to have a tour of our schools.
