Welcome to Reception

Summer 2

Fun in the sun!

We cannot believe that we are already in our final half term of Reception! We are really looking forward to exploring our learning this half term alongside lots of exciting events such as sports day, transition days, and our EYFS graduation.

On our Class Page you will be able to see all of the information that you need to find out about our learning throughout our time together. If you scroll to the bottom you can see our 'book hooks' and news! Please see Our Learning tab for weekly updates, and our Curriculum Newsletter for the overview of learning for Summer 2.

Please check Dojo for regular updates and notices. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact us via Dojo or email.

Who's who?

Teaching Staff: Miss Maguire, Miss Jones, and Mrs Walton

Teaching Support Staff: Mrs Dougan, Miss Rafiq, and Miss Kearsley

Look what's arrived in EYFS!

As we begin our new unit, Fun in the Sun, we have turned our role play area into an Aquarium Investigation Station. This also links to our new text in English - I wonder if you can use your inference skills to predict what our new text might be?  We are looking forward to seeing how our little people explore their learning in this new area over the next couple of weeks.

Look what's arrived in EYFS!

Have you ever seen something like this before? What do you think it is? What could it be used for? How do you think it could link to our text? What do you think our new text could be about?

Fun at the Farm!

23/03/23

Ash Class went on a trip to Applecast Farm today and had lots of fun! As part of our 'Let's Grow!' topic, we explored lifecycles, planting and growing. The children  potted their own sunflower seeds to grow at home, made food for the tortoises and then fed them, visited the other animals and even saw a wallaby!

Science Week!

17/03/23

This week during science week, our children really blew us away with their curiosity, creativity and perseverance. We explored:

- bubbles using pipe cleaners and fairy liquid

- physics using cars and ramps

- Engineering using marble run

- Light and dark using shadow puppets

- Sound using cup phones

Thank you all the parents who came into school yesterday so that the children could proudly tell you all about their learning in science. We hope we have inspired some future scientists.

Applecast Farm!

03/03/23

Beech Class went on a trip to Applecast Farm today and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. As part of our 'Let's Grow!' topic, we explored lifecycles, planting and growing. The children learned what plants need to survive and potted their own sunflower seeds to then grow at home. We helped to weed the flower beds at the farm and planted new bulbs. We then took a trip around the farm to meet the animals, feed them and learn all about adult and baby and animals on the farm.

World Book Day!

02/03/23

Our theme this year for World Book Day was Traditional Tales. The Reception children had an absolute blast exploring the continuous provision activities related to different tales whilst dressed up like their favourite characters.

Count your rainbows, not your thunderstorms!

22/02/23

When asking our children for some thoughts on how we could improve our outdoor classroom, a few of them expressed a desire to see more bright colours. One of the children said, "I wish it had some of my favourite colours, like red and yellow and green... just all the rainbow colours!"
With that, we have all gotten stuck in together to brighten things up!

While you're waiting for our doors to open can you talk about our book hooks for next week's text?

Remember: who, what, when, where, why?

SPOTTED!

23/01/23

At the start of this week we found mysterious video footage of a visitor on our grounds!  We have been making predictions about where the cheetah has come from and why it could be here. Here are some that we have made so far:
• it ran from Africa
• it has jumped out of our non-fiction book
• it wants to build a new home on our playground
• it got bored of being at the zoo
• it wants to make friends
• it is lost

Can you think of another prediction with your adult at home? Can you talk to them about what you already know about this animal?๐Ÿพ We are really looking forward to hearing about your discussions!

Forest School!

17/01/23

We have begun Spring 1 with our first visit to Forest School. We spent time discussing how to be safe and respectful of our environment and then off the children went to explore! We enjoyed making 'hot chocolate' in the mud kitchen, building a den and exploring the natural world around us.

Wanted!

16/01/23

Think back to the CCTV footage that we watched this morning. Using these picture prompts to help you, can you talk to your adult at home about what you think is happening?

Please check the Our Learning tab for more information about our exploration of learning based on this!

All Things Great and Small!

10/01/23

We have really enjoyed the start to our Spring 1 Topic, which will see the children learning a variety of information about living things and the natural world.
Our role play area was transformed into a home filled with pets which children were encouraged to care for and then enhanced to become a pet shop where children could buy supplies for their animals. We also created a photo wall of the children's own pets from home in order to prompt discussion. It has been delightful to watch the children engage with the area as they nurture their 'pets'.

WHO could this mysterious object belong to?
WHAT do you think it could be?
WHEN do you think it got stuck in the chimney?
WHERE has it come from?
WHY does it look like that?

Special Delivery! โœ‰๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฎ

25/11/22

We couldn't believe it when a mysterious letter arrived in our EYFS postbox this morning! We have spent lots of time today discussing what the "little gift" could be. Why not see if your adult at home can predict what the gift from the Jolly Postman could be?

We can't wait for Monday to find out!

Look what’s arrived in EYFS! ๐Ÿ‘€

21/11/22

WHO can you spot on the postbox?
WHAT do you think our text next week is about?
WHEN have you ever experienced receiving post?
WHERE have you seen a postbox before?
WHY do people use postboxes?

We are really looking forward to hearing from our little people about their discussions at home with you about this mysterious postbox! We can’t wait to explore our new learning together. โœ‰๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฎ

We will remember them...

10/11/22

As part of our Expressive Arts and Design we have created watercolour paintings of Flander’s Field. We have also created 3 poppy wreaths, made up of individual poppies that each child has made. Today we walked to the front of school to tie our poppy wreaths onto the fence to mark our respect. We had a short silence to reflect on the bravery of our soldiers.

Keep your eyes peeled for our brand new EYFS Little Library Trolley! ๐Ÿ‘€
07/11/22

This is a take a book, or leave a book, service to promote a love for reading for our little ones at home. These books are for you to read to them and will be available to choose from at drop off/pick up times on the EYFS playground.

We look forward to our books finding a lovely new home.

Have you heard about what has appeared in EYFS? ๐Ÿ•ต๐Ÿผ‍โ™‚๏ธ
31/10/22

This week we have been making predictions about what could be inside in the cave. Here are some that we have made so far:
• a lion
• an alien because it is dark like space
• nothing
• a scary bear
• a friendly bear
• a goat
• something frightening
Can you think of another prediction with your adult at home? Can you talk to them about what is surrounding the cave? ๐ŸŒจ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿพ We are really looking forward to reading our focus text over the next two weeks to see if our predictions are correct!

Look who’s coming to visit EYFS this week! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿพ

10/10/22

Who is the hidden character? Where do you think they are going? What else can you see? How have these items appeared? Why do you think this is in our classroom?

We are so excited to hear your ideas on Monday morning during our English input. ๐Ÿ˜

Can you help us solve the mystery for this week’s story? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ‍โ™€๏ธ
