Great news to celebrate together… We are officially a School of Sanctuary!
We are very proud to have received our Schools of Sanctuary Award today. 🤩
Eloise and Thomas did a fabulous job of presenting some of their learning to other schools and special guests!
Well done to everyone at LMS for making our school a welcoming place!
At Leyland Methodist Schools, we committed to working towards becoming a School of Sanctuary, welcoming all to our wonderful school. After 2 years of hard work, the children and staff are proud to announce that we have officially been notified that we have qualified for the award!
The School of Sanctuary award is available to all schools across Lancashire and beyond. The award recognises good practices that welcome new friends to our school, including asylum seekers and refugees.
Schools need to:
· Learn about what it means to be seeking sanctuary and about the lives of asylum seekers and refugees in the UK.
· Embed this knowledge and understanding in the curriculum and the daily life of the school.
· Share this new knowledge with the school’s wider community.
The award complements our school vision, values and ethos and recognises the love that our children and staff have for serving our community together! Well done everyone! 🤩 ⭐️ 😍
A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for everyone, especially those seeking sanctuary. They welcome asylum seeking and refugee families into their school community and foster a culture of welcome for all.
This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are looking for a place of safety.
Schools awarded this status help pupils, staff, parents and the wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary. They also extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community.
It is for everyone: diverse or homogenous schools, parents, communities, local people and people seeking sanctuary,
It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all!
Within God’s love for everyone, Our school family is committed to serve by:
- celebrating everyone’s unique God-given talents;
- giving the best of ourselves for all the world;
- doing all the good we can together.
